February has become the month of showing your love and appreciation for the people you care about the most. Don’t just think of it as a time for those with significant others; rather look at everyone around you and who supports you on a regular basis. Positive energy and companionship is a major component at our academy. Take the time to really enjoy what Brazilian jiu-jitsu and our teammates bring to your life. Your learning process here should be a fun one that motivates you to keep coming back. Even if someone gets the upper hand on you during a roll, congratulate your teammate on a nice job and know some day’s you’ll be the hammer, some days you’ll be the nail. But everyday you should leave with a smile and continue to grow connections with your training partners. Take ease in the thought that you are not in this journey alone.
Besides the pure enjoyment that you get from this sport, there is another component that will allow you to make your training a lifelong journey. Staying healthy as best as you can! I bet you are unaware of February’s newest title… February is now officially National Self-Check month. In addition to enjoying our academy and your teammates a little extra, take the month of February to check how well you are taking care of yourself. Is your diet, sleep, and activity level conducive to you living a healthy life, therefore allowing you to train at a consistent frequency? In the wise words of Fox (and Benjamin Franklin), “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
