This is a great blog on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA. I ran into the publisher on Sunday, and he re-posted the article on Jerry qualifying for, and winning a Silver Medal at the ADCC World Championship in Barcelona in Sept. 2009.
Our team did great! Derek Picinich took 2nd place in the 189.9 lbs No-Gi Advanced Division, defeating one of the World’s elite black belts – Sergio Moraes (3x World BJJ Champion, 2x as Black Belt) in the 1st round, and Nolan Dutcher in the semifinals.
Other notable results:
Scott Abella, 2nd place in Executive No-Gi Advanced, over 200 lbs.
Billy Lyons, 3rd place, Executive White Belt HW
Nick Maniaci, 2nd place in Men’s No-Gi Novice, 199.9 lbs
Enrico (Ricky) DeLuca, 3rd place, Beginner No-Gi, 169.9 lbs.

Big day today – Karl, in the presence of 2 other Renzo Gracie Black Belts (David Cheung and Doug Pelinkovic) awarded Brain Long and Derek Picinich their well deserved Black Belts.

Also promoted today were:
- Scott “Greco” Kellen to Purple Belt
- Alex Mella and Brian Morales to Blue Belt
CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Brian Long won gold in his division and Scott “Greco” Kellen took 3rd place. Congratulations guys!

Our team did really well this past weekend and I’m proud of all the guys that competed. Some of the notable results:
Derek Picinich, despite being well under the 200 lbs. limit stepped in on a short notice into the 4-man superfight. He won his 1st fight against Nolan Dutcher by commanding margin and faced Rafael Lovato Jr. (who is both a World & 2x Pan American Champion as a Black Belt) in the finals. Although Derek lost on points, he put forth a game performance, and wound up with Silver Medal.
Gold medals – Jason Ratchford (Brown Belt Gi Master), Billy Lyons (No-Gi Novice) and Stan Arangelov (No-Gi Beginner).
Bronze medal – Sergio DeBari (No-Gi Intermediate).
Also of note, most of our guys wins came via submissions. Congratulations guys!
Enjoy some of the podium pictures.
Karl won 1st place (Absolute) and 2nd place (Light Weight), Black Belts (senior) at the 2010 European Open Championship held in Lisbon, Portugal January 28-31, 2010.

Brian Long and Scott “Greco” Kellen both won Gold medals in their divisions to become the No-Gi World Champions this past Sunday in Long Beach, California.
